False prophets
One The endless date setting Two The truth

The endless date setting

They have prophesied many many times. Among their many prophesies have been,

The invisible coming of Christ in 1874.

The end of the world in 1914. (close!)

The end of the world in 1975.

They were so sure of their prophecy that in the year 1925 all members of their church would be changed to heavenly glory that they actually built houses for Moses and the Old Testament saints.

They prophesied that World war two was actually Armageddon.

Their last great public prophecy was that the world would end in 1984.

Their current literature says that Jesus returned to earth in spirit form in 1914, some days after the war began, and that only they know this.

Ed. Gruss - a former JW leader examined their public predictions going back to 1877 and found that every single prophecy was false.

Here is the full list of their false prophecies + the statements to avoid blame when the prophecies proved to be false.

1972  IDENTIFYING THE "PROPHET" - "So, does Jehovah have a prophet to help them, to warn them of dangers and to declare things to come? These questions can be answered in the affirmative. Who is this prophet? ... This "prophet" was not one man, but was a body of men and women. It was the small group of footstep followers of Jesus Christ, known at that time as International Bible Students. Today they are known as Jehovah's Christian Witnesses ... Of course, it is easy to say that this group acts as a "prophet" of God. It is another thing to prove it."  THE WATCHTOWER 4/t/72 p. 197 (See Deut. 18:21)

1889    "The battle of the great day of God Almighty (Rev. 16:14),whicb will end in A.D. 1914 with the complete overthrow of earth's present rulership is already commenced." THE TIME IS AT HAND, p. 101 (1908 edition)

1914    "The present great war in Europe is the beginning of the Armageddon of the Scriptures." PASTOR RUSSELL'S SERMONS, p. 676

1916    "The Bible chronology herein presented shows that the six great 1000 year days beginning with Adam are ended, and that the great 7th Day,the 1000 years of Christ's Reign, began in 1873." THE TIME IS AT HAND, p. 2 (Forward)

1918    "Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particularly those named by the Apostle in -Hebrews 1 1, to the condition of human perfection." MILLIONS NOW LIVING WILL NEVER DIE, p. 89

1922    "The date 1925 is even more distinctly indicated by the Scriptures than 1914." THE WATCHTOWER,  9/l/22, p. 262

1923    "Our thought is, that 1925 is definitely settled by the Scriptures. As to Noah, the Christian now has much more upon which to base his faith than Noah had upon which to base his faith in a coming deluge." THE WATCHTOWER, p. 106, 4/l/23

1925    "The year 1925 is here. With great expectation Christians have looked forward to this year. Many have confidently expected that all members of the body of Christ will be changed to heavenly glory during this year. This may be accomplished. It may not be. In his own due time God will accomplish his purposes concerning his people. Christians should not be so deeply concerned about what may transpire this year." THE WATCHTOWER, I/ 1/25, p. 3

Sept 1925.  "It is to be expected that Satan will try to inject into the minds of the consecrated, the thought that 1925 should see an end to the work." THE WATCHTOWER, p. 262

1926    "Some anticipated that the work would end in 1925, but the Lord did not so state." THE WATCHTOWER, 1926 p.-232.

"The difficulty was that the friends inflated their imaginations beyond reason; and that when their imaginations burst asunder, they were inclined to throw away everything." THE WATCHTOWER, 1925, p. 56 par. 51

1931    "There was a measure of disappointment on the part of Jehovah's faithful ones on earth concerning the years 1914, 1918, and 1925, which disappointment lasted for a time ... and they also learned to quit fixing dates." VINDICATION, p. 338

1938    "They had preached that in an early time God would overthrow "Christendom". Many had emphasised the year 1925 as the date, and then when that date did not materialize the date was moved up to 1932. Again, 1932 came and "Christendom" was not destroyed, and now it was discovered that "Christendom" would be spared for a while longer for the sake of the Jonadab class, and this made the proud "elective elder" crowd very mad." THE WATCHTOWER,  2/15/1938 p. 54

1941    "Receiving the gift, the marching children clasped it to them, not a toy or plaything for idle pleasure, but the Lord's provided instrument for most effective work in the remaining months before Armageddon." THE WATCHTOWER,  9/13/41, p. 288

1968    "True, there have been those in times past who predicted an "end" to the world, even announcing a specific date. Yet nothing happened. The end did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why? What was missing? Missing from such people were God's truths and the evidence that He was using and guiding them. " AWAKE 10/8/68 (See Luke 21:8)

1968    "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO 1975?" THE WATCHTOWER,  8/15/68, p. 494

The truth

‘Then if anyone says to you, “Look here is the Messiah” - or, “there He is” - do not believe him...
for the Son of Man will come like the lightning which flashes across the sky from the east to the west’.

‘You will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming with the clouds of heaven’

“Look, He is coming with the clouds and everyone shall see Him, including those who pierced Him”

‘..and all the peoples of the earth will weep as they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory’

No one knows, however, when that day and hour will come - neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, the Father alone knows’.

“Yes indeed, I AM coming soon! ”

Maranatha! - Come Lord Jesus!
