The signs preceding Christ's return

Although the major schools of eschatology vary much as to the exact order and details of Christ's’ coming, they are in general agreement as to the following basic events which are to take place. We list these events in a reasonable order without details. These things are certainly important signs of the Lord’s coming and call all true believers to be prepared for this momentous event. The Scriptures show two streams of prophetic events relative to the time of Christ's coming; things which are negative, and things which are positive. Darkness and light, the mystery of iniquity and the mystery of godliness run parallel together from the beginning until the end of time.  

 

 

NEGATIVE

 

a)   Perilous times are to come in the last days (II Timothy 3:1-7).

 

(b)  The days of Noah and the days of Lot are to be repeated as to the evil and 

      judgements (Luke 17:20-37).

 

(c)  Wars, famines, pestilences and earthquakes are to increase (Matthew 24:6-7;

       Revelation  6:1-17).

 

(d)  Wealth is to increase in the last days (James 5:1-9).

 

(e)   Intense persecution and tribulation is to come upon the saints in the last days 

       (Matthew 24: 9-10,21).

 

(f)   Great deception with the rise of the occult will abound (Matthew 24:4,5,11,24; 

       1 Timothy 4:1).

 

(g)   False prophets and antichrists are to be manifested in these times (Matthew 

       24:5,11, 23-26;  II Thessalonians 2:1-12; Revelation 13).

 

(h)   Great apostasy from the Church will take place (2nd Thessalonians 2:1-3;

       Matthew 24:12; Hebrews 6:3-8).

 

(i)   World kingdoms will arise in conflict with each other, and the kingdom of

       antichrist will be a universal kingdom (Daniel 2; Daniel 7; Daniel 18; Daniel 11;

       Revelation 13; Revelation 19:11.21).

 

(j)   The Babylonian system will prevail through the whole world (Revelation 17-18;

       Zechariah 5; Isaiah 47.48).

 

(k)  A one-world religious Church will be manifest (Revelation 17).  

 

(l)   A one world dictatorship and government will arise and be under the rule of the

      antichrist at the coming of Christ. It will be a ten-kingdom world power

      (Revelation 13:17; Daniel 2,7) (Read also 2nd John 2:18,22; 4:1-3)

 

(m)  There will also be special judgments of God in the earth as symbolized under

        the opening of the judgments of Revelation under the Seven Seals, Seven

        Trumpets and Seven Vials of Wrath (Revelation 6-16).  

 

 

 

The evidence of all these things surround us today in an increasing manner. The generation alive at the coming of Christ will see these things in intensity and consummation at Christ’s coming.

   

POSITIVE 

 

(a) A universal outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all flesh will take place before Christ’s coming (Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:17; James 5:7-8). This began on the Day of Pentecost and will consummate in the final days. It will be upon all flesh, whether Jews or Gentiles and will graft all into the olive tree by faith (Romans 11).

 

(b) The Gospel of the Kingdom is to be preached to all nations for a powerful witness before the end comes (Matthew 24:14).

 

(c) A recovery of Bible truths to God’s people will take place (Hebrews 6:12; John 16:12-13; Ephesians 4:9-16).

 

(d) The Church of the latter days is to be restored to its early glory (Acts 3:19-21; Ephesians 5:23-32). The Lord is going to present to Himself a glorious Church without spot or blemish. It will be a victorious Church (Matthew 16:15-20).

 

(e) The prayer of Christ for the unity of His Church will come to fulfillment, in order that the world will see such a witness before Christ returns (John 17).

 

(f) The Church will bring in the final harvest of souls into the Kingdom of God, as symbolized under the harvest festivals in the Feasts of Passover, Pentecost and Taber­nacles  (Leviticus 23).

 

As seen above, the Scriptures show that there are two prophetic streams pertaining to Christ’s coming at the end of this age. The one stream shows the darkness increasing, and the other shows the light increasing (Proverbs 4:18-i9; Isaiah 60:1-3). The wheat and the tares will grow together until th end of the age. The same rain that ripens and matures the wheat does the same for the tares. The same gospel; net brings in the good and bad fish. At the coming of Christ there will be a great separation (Matthew 13: 24-30, 36-43, 47-50)
