A scriptural introduction to the occult

Bible references Occult power Kingdom Power The spiritual realm
Satan's kingdom Kingdom authority The Occult wedge Occult ritual
The occult has been with us since the fall.

Occult means 'hidden'  Scripture is awash with references to it.  A short study of the scriptures below will provide a good base for understanding the dangers of the occult.

It is an abominable practice and therefore brings God's curse upon those who participate in it.

"When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, "or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. "For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you. "You shall be blameless before the Lord your God. "For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not appointed such for you.  Deut. 18:9

God's people were always vulnerable to great falls into occult darkness.

Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Hephzibah. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. 4And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. 5And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. And he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house  2 Kings 21:1

Each time the nation suffered terribly.

And the LORD spake by his servants the prophets, saying, Because Manasseh king of Judah hath done these abominations, and hath done wickedly above all that the Amorites did, which were before him, and hath made Judah also to sin with his idols: Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I am bringing such evil upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whosoever heareth of it, both his ears shall tingle.   2 Kings 21:10

Witchcraft is linked to rebellion against God.  God sent Samuel to tell King Saul..

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king."   Samuel 15:23

Saul's rebellion against God's word saw him end up in the witch's house - the night before he and his sons died on Mt. Gilboa at the hands of their enemies.

Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor. And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee. And the woman said unto him, Behold, thou knowest what Saul hath done, how he hath cut off those that have familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land: wherefore then layest thou a snare for my life, to cause me to die? And Saul sware to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD liveth, there shall no punishment happen to thee for this thing. Then said the woman, Whom shall I bring up unto thee? And he said, Bring me up Samuel. And when the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice: and the woman spake to Saul, saying, Why hast thou deceived me? for thou art Saul. And the king said unto her, Be not afraid: for what sawest thou? And the woman said unto Saul, I saw gods ascending out of the earth. And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself. And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.

Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons. And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers. Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armour bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. And when his armour bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him  1 Samuel 31:1

Whereas David was a conqueror and Israel prospered under him, Saul and his family and the nation that was in a covenant relationship with God all suffered death and humiliation at the hands of their enemies because of his rebellion and his final slide into wholehearted involvement with the occult

. So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armour bearer, and all his men, that same day together. And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them. And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa. And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people. And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.     1 Samuel 31:6

Obedience to God brings blessings. Rebellion brings a curse.  Occult - a terrible curse.

Occult has spiritual power behind it

Rulers often either immersed themselves deeply into the occult (eg Manasseh 2nd Kings 21)

Or, had the most powerful occultists surrounding them. (eg Pharaoh in Joseph's day - Genesis 41:8,  and Pharaoh in Moses' day - Exodus 7 - 9, and Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel's day - Daniel 4)

Or, they hired those who understood the spiritual realm

'..please come at once, curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land, for I know that whom you bless is blessed and whom you curse is cursed. So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the diviners fee in their hand  Numbers 22:7

They understood perfectly that events on the ground were were outworked first in the spiritual realm. ( e.g. Moses Aaron and Hur at the battle of Rephadim)

Pharaoh's magicians demonstrated great power at 'will'. They were able to turn their rods into serpents (Exodus 7:11) turned water into blood (Exodus 7:22) called frogs to come up out of the river (Exodus 8:7)

Sacrificing a first born son drew great power down into a situation.-'And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too severe for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through to the king of Edom: but they could not. Then he took his eldest son that was to reign in his stead, and offered him for a burnt-offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: And they departed from him, and returned to their own land. (2Ki 3:26&27)

Sorcerers claimed great things for themselves. That their power was from God. They loved the attention and respect it accorded them through fear. 'But there was a certain man called Simon, who before in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. And to him they had regard, because that for a long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. (Acts. 8:9-11)

Occult power is no match for God's power

Egypt has always been the seat of great occult power.  Pharaoh's magicians were the most powerful in the land of Egypt and therefore almost certainly in the whole world.  God merely played with them in order to demonstrate His Power over their demonic gods and their dark powers, and then went on to crush the nation at will.   To do this He used an old man of 80 who was slow of speech, didn't want the job, .and probably smelt of sheep!

So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the Lord commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent. But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. For every man threw down his rod, and they became serpents. But Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods  Exodus 7:10

The encounter continued as God demonstrated His Power over each Egyptian god. The sorcerers were able to work their power in a similar but much lesser way for a while, then they acknowledged defeat.

For Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod and struck the dust of the earth and it became lice on man and beast. All the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. Now the magicians so worked with their enchantments to bring forth lice but they could not   Exodus 8:17

Elijah had a major power encounter with 450 of the most powerful occultists in the land. Again God merely played with them as Elijah taunted them before finally calling on His God to demonstrate who was God.

So Ahab sent for all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together on Mount Carmel. And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word. Then Elijah said to the people, "I alone am left a prophet of the Lord; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men. "Therefore let them give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it; and I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it. "Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who answers by fire, He is God." So all the people answered and said, "It is well spoken."  Now Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose one bull for yourselves and prepare it first, for you are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under it." So they took the bull which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying, "O Baal, hear us!" But there was no voice; no one answered. Then they leaped about the altar which they had made. And so it was, at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, "Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened." So they cried aloud, and cut themselves, as was their custom, with knives and lances, until the blood gushed out on them. And when midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice. But there was no voice; no one answered, no one paid attention. Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come near to me." So all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down. And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, "Israel shall be your name." Then with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord; and he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed. And he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, "Fill four water pots with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood." Then he said, "Do it a second time," and they did it a second time; and he said, "Do it a third time," and they did it a third time. So the water ran all around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water. And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, "Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. "Hear me, O Lord, hear me, that this people may know that You are the Lord God, and that You have turned their hearts back to You again." Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!" And Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let one of them escape!" So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the Brook Kishon and executed them there.   1Kings 18:19

It was the same story in the New Testament.  The disciples experienced the power and authority in the Name of Jesus.

Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. "Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven."  Luke 10:19

And so it was, and continues to be.

But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul who also is called Paul filled with the Holy Spirit, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtlety, and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and thou shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.  Acts 13:8-11

Note: The 'power' backing Paul was infinitely greater than the power backing Elymas, the city's well known warlock.  Serious occult practioners understand this power differential all too well.  Even Aleister Crowley - known as 'the beast' wrote on page 262 of his infamous book 'Magick' ..It cannot be too clearly understood that magical force is subject to the same laws of proportion as any other kind of force. It is useless for a mere millionaire to try to bankrupt a man who has the Bank of England behind him'

'Now it happened as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us who brought her masters much profit through fortune telling…but Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit "I command you in the Name of Jesus to come out of her. And he came out of her that very hour. Acts 16:16

Non Christians tried using the Name of Jesus - and learnt a hard lesson.

Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them. Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches." Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?" Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. This became known both to all Jews and Greeks dwelling in Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totalled fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed.  Acts 19: 11

Jesus gave His followers (disciples) power and authority over all the powers of darkness

And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. Matthew 10:1

Understanding the spiritual realm

God is Spirit and we are designed (spirit + soul + body) to be able to communicate with Him Spirit to spirit.

Satan also is spirit and we are able to communicate with him spirit to spirit.

First understand that we are God's treasured vineyard and He has a hedge of protection around us.

So satan answered the Lord and said, 'does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side?   Job 1: 9

God may see fit to remove this hedge or wall Himself because the fruit we bear is not Holy Spirit grown..

My Well-beloved has a vineyard on a very fruitful hill. He dug it up and cleared out its stones, and planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, and also made a winepress in it. So He expected it to bring forth good grapes, but it brought forth wild grapes…What more could have been done to My vineyard that I have not done it? Why then when I expected it to bring forth good grapes did it bring forth wild grapes? And now please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away away its hedge, and it shall be burned: and break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down..  Isaiah 5: 2

Or He may erect it again to keep us from straying out and away from Him. Speaking of stopping wayward Israel from running from Him God says in

"I will hedge up your way with thorns, and wall her in" Hosea 2: 6

But most often probably the truth is that the pit we find ourselves in was dug with our own hands. The 'serpent' can only in when we - or someone in our generational line - makes the choice to break out through God's wall or hedge in order to eat forbidden fruit.

He who digs a pit will fall into it. And whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent. Ecclesiastes 10:8

Who or what lives in the spiritual darkness outside this wall or hedge?

And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgement of the great day.    Jude 6

'For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness..'   Ephesians 6:12

In the natural the thorn hedges or walls were to keep the flock inside and the wild animals that would attack them outside.   So in the spiritual.

In the natural if the sheep broke out from the pen and found themselves in the territory of the wolf they tended not to be able to find their way back behind the wall themselves.  The Shepherd went and found them and brought them back to the safety of the pen.

And if the wolves broke in to the fold through a breached wall or torn hedge the sheep could not drive them out again. That also was the Shepherd's role. His rod and staff were their great comfort. As in the natural so in the spiritual.

Surely because My flock became a prey for, and My flock became food for every beast of the field.. As a Shepherd seeks out His flock on the day He is among His scattered flock, so will I seek out My sheep, and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day'.     Ezekiel 34: 8a + 12

Many have wandered out into the dominion of darkness and danced with the devil.

Many have dug that pit and fallen into it.  Many have broken through the hedge and a serpent has bitten them. Many are prisoners of their own making. Through foolish curiosity. through rebellion. Through a thirst for power. Through ignorance. Through an ungodly inheritance.

Praise God for the heart of the Great Shepherd.

'The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound.  Isaiah 61: 1

Praise God we have a Great Shepherd who loves His sheep.

Satan's kingdom

Satan (as lucifer) was once a major player within the Kingdom of God. He knows how perfect, how brilliant, God’s Kingdom is. He knows that He can never be God so in his rebellion his desire is to be ‘like the Most High’

For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.   Isaiah 14:13

In other words his desire is to emulate God - and His Kingdom - in every way.

Therefore satan has established a counterfeit kingdom .e.g.

  • Satan has a throne (Revelation 2:13)
  • Satan has great depths of doctrines (Revelation 2:24; I Timothy 4:1; I Corinthians 2:10).
  • Satan has a synagogue (Revelation 2:9; 3:9)
  • Satan has a communion table (I Corinthians 10:21).
  • Satan has people sacrifice at his altar (Deuteronomy 22:17; I Corinthians 10-20).
  • Satan has a counterfeit cup (1 Corinthians 10:21).
  • Satan gives his doctrines to men to teach (I Timothy 4:1
  • Satan himself is an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11: 14).
  • Satan has his messengers, demonic and human (2 Corinthians 11:13).
  • Satan has a kingdom (Matthew I2:26).
  • Satan does counterfeit miracles, signs and ‘senders (Revelation on 16:24; Exodus 7:8-12).
  • Satan has false apostles. Prophets and teachers (2 Corinthians 11:13-24; II Peter 2:1; Mark 13:22; Matthew 13; 38).
  • Satan has a city. Mystery Babylon, to oppose the City of God, the New Jerusalem (Revelation 17:5)
  • Satan also has a harlot church, to counterfeit the Bride of Christ (Revelation 17:5).
  • Satan and his demons seek to be worshipped (Leviticus I7:7; Deuteronomy 32:17;  2 Chronicles 11:15; Psalm 106:37;  I Corinthians 10:20; Revelation 9: 20; Matthew 4 8-10).
  • Satan has his false Christ. the rival of God’s Christ (I John 2:18-22).
  • Satan Imitates the revelation of the Godhead in his Satanic three in Revelation 13: the Beast (Anti-Father): the Antichrist (Anti-Son) and the False Prophet (Anti-Spirit). (Revelation 16:13-14: John 5:43).
  • Satan’s Mystery of Iniquity’’ is the counterfeit of God’s Mystery of Godliness (2 Thessalonians 2:7 with I Timothy 3:16).
  • Satan wants to live in human bodies as temples for his demon spirits as God wants to live in human bodies by His Spirit (John 13:27 with I Corinthians 6:19).
  • Satan seals his followers with a name on their forehead, which is the counterfeit God’s name on His people’s forehead (Revelation 13:16 with: 1-3)

Kingdom authority over all occult power

Behind all occult power is satan, 'god of this world'

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.  2 Cor. 4:4

Satan, once known as 'lucifer' the light bearer, held high position as an anointed cherub around the Throne of God.

You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.  Ezekiel 28:10

He was then evicted from the highest (or the third) heaven and cast down to earth.

Jesus said, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven"  Luke 10:18

There had been a brief war to evict him

And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.  Revelation 12:7

Lucifer - now re-named by God as 'satan' and 'the devil' to denote his fallen position - still had his power - For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.(Romans 11:29) - but nowhere (no place of authority) to exercise it.

Adam was given authority or 'dominion' over the earth - getting his power to exercise this dominion from his son/Father relationship with God

God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."   Genesis 1:28

Satan - manifesting as his nature befits, in the temporary form of a serpent - succeeded in getting Adam to blatantly disobey God and thus break the spirit to Spirit relationship with God.

Instantly he knew that God's power had gone and he felt different - 'naked'

Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked  Genesis 3:7

So we now have on earth, a scenario where satan has substantial spiritual power but no authority to use it, and Adam has his authority but no spiritual power to exercise it.

Rather than submitting to God Adam had now submitted (obeyed) to satan and through his rebellion, Adam simply gave away his God-given authority or 'dominion' over the whole earth to satan - who now has an arena of authority wherein he can exercise his unholy power.

Every person who descended directly from Adam's loins came automatically under satan's authority and power.  Until the birth of Jesus.

Jesus was born of woman - but not of man - as God was His Father, and therefore he was the first person since Adam to walk in unrelinquished God given authority at the same time receiving power from the Spirit of God to exercise that authority. That is why Jesus is known as 'the second Adam'

Thus satan had NO authority over Jesus..

And the devil said to Him, "All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. "Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours  Luke 4:6

Unlike Adam, Jesus did not bow the knee.  He had come from heaven on a mission to set the captives free.  Now it could begin.

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8

Jesus exercised His power and authority over demon, fish, sea, storm and death.

Satan was powerless to do anything

Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. Luke 4:13

"I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in MeJohn 14:30

He began calling and training disciples and He gave those who followed Him and acknowledged Him as Lord the authority to use His Name.

And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.  Matthew 10:1

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.  Luke 10:18

And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."  Mark 16:17

But destroying the works of the devil for ever and opening a door from the dominion of darkness into His Kingdom was going to require Him to pay a terrible price.

It was our sin, our rebellion, our lawlessness that gave satan rights in us and over us.

Jesus the second Adam - without sin - chose to became sin on our behalf that the punishment that should be ours could fall on Him. In the divine exchange of the New Covenant Jesus took our filthy rags of sin upon Himself in the spiritual realm and in exchange gave us His robes of righteousness.

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.  Colossians 1:13

And the power to become 'children of God'

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.  John 1 :12

cross.jpg (1402 bytes) He died on a cross for us - and rose again after 3 days and 3 nights - and now sits at the right hand of the Father from whence He came.  The work He came to do was 'finished' on the cross. The victory was complete.  Our champion came and conquered and reigns today.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God    Hebrews 12:2

Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross. Because of this, God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.   Philippians 2:6

All who repent ( turn away from their rebellion to God) - and acknowledge the risen Jesus as Lord may receive their forgiveness, be born again of His Spirit, be 'filled' with His Spirit, and have the honour, the joy, the responsibility and the sheer adventure of following Him.

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation   Romans 10:9

Those who have been redeemed through His blood shed on that cross know that this earth is as close to hell as they will ever get.  For those still in rebellion to God, this earth is as close to heaven as you will get.

Jesus did not come to condemn you.  He came to save you.  He died for you.  To redeem you.  To set you free.  To bring you into the family of God.  To give you abundant life.

Satan comes only to steal, to kill to destroy.

I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. "The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.  John 10 :10

And so it was,

And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly. And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them. Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed. Acts 5:12

and so it is today.

Know salvation right now - With the best yet to come!

Get saved here and now!

Occult wedge

Few people go straight into the deepest darkness of satan's dominion of darkness.   Usually they step on to the thin end of the wedge first, get hooked, and move further along the wedge, encouraged or excited by 'results'.  Satan will give a measure of his power to draw the victim in.  Always, always the victim is allowed to think that they are in control.  Many even believe that there is no devil, that the power is from within themselves.

The rude awakening comes when they try to walk away from it all.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.  Even to walk away.

The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?" Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.   Matthew 19:20

Occult ritual

God is so gracious that when He established spiritual principles He set the boundaries between light and darkness so surely that it would be impossible for a person to simply 'fall accidentally' into the occult.

There is a wall or a 'hedge' between the two kingdoms and only deliberate ritual will open the doorway into the dominion of darkness.

It matters little what the ritual is - it is the principle of ritual itself - so that a person has to want to break through the divide.

The ritual of the ouija board, the ritual of levitation, the ritual of the fortune teller, the ritual of the kabbala etc.

As centuries have come and gone various rituals have been established to summon up certain occult powers.  From divination to spells to magik.  Through these rituals the dark beings of the demonic realm and the human practitioner both understand (the two agree) which avenue is being explored or tapped into.

Most of the rituals with serious intent take place during the hours of darkness
